Intern Corner: Meet Gretchen
Gretchen Gerlach – Quartz Human Resource Intern
This week, The Intern Corner takes us to the Internal Communications department to meet Gretchen Gerlach. We asked Gretchen why she’s interested in Internal Communications, how she chose Quartz and how she hopes her future unfolds.
Where do you go to school and what’s your major?
I go to the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where I’m pursuing a degree in journalism and a certificate in graphic design.
Why did you pick your major?
I chose journalism because I have always loved writing and telling stories, and I believe strong communicators will always be essential to the success of companies and organizations.
Why did you pick Quartz for your summer internship?
I chose to intern at Quartz this summer to learn more about corporate communication. My background is in news writing, so I wanted to get some exposure to internal communications.
Where do you see yourself five years from now (life, career, etc)?
Five years from now I hope to be living in a big city, hopefully with a cat, and working for a news outlet or print publication.
What event are you most excited for this summer? What are you most excited to do in your position?
This summer at Quartz I am excited to be working with other driven, hardworking students and to be making connections that might help me down the road in my own career.
In my position as the internal communications intern I am excited to be writing articles for and about Quartz employees, and to be learning our intranet software.
If you had to pick your “anthem,” (music) what would you pick? Why?
If I had to pick an anthem it would probably be Mr. Brightside by the Killers. Who doesn’t love that song?
