Quartz Updates — January 2020

Network News

The new year brings changes to some Quartz networks –

  • Quartz Senior Preferred has consolidated its networks into one. This gives our Medicare Advantage members access to any provider in the Quartz Senior Preferred network throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois.
  • Our Commercial / HMO and Elite networks have been combined and are called Quartz One.
  • Our Prime network is being renamed Quartz Prime and includes access to providers in Waukesha County.
  • Any member ID cards printed now will reflect the new network names. You may continue to see old network names until our entire membership on these networks has been issued new cards.

Medicare Claims

Effective January 1, 2020, you must use the Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) for all Medicare claims instead of the Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN). If your patient did not receive a new card with their MBI, please refer them to MyMedicare.gov or (800) MEDICARE.

BadgerCare Plus Eliminates Copays

Effective January 1, 2020, there will be zero dollar ($0) copays for Quartz BadgerCare Plus members. After June 30, 2020, there will be copays for certain “fee-for-service” benefits, such as pharmacy or chiropractic procedures. Quartz will continue to have no copays beyond June 30, 2020 for services the HMO covers. Please verify benefits through MyPlanTools or call Customer Service at (800) 362-3310.

Reminder Regarding Field 11D for Paper Claims

On paper claims, please do not add a Y into field 11D if there is no other insurance coverage on the member. If you add a Y in error, it causes the claim to pend for COB even when there is not additional coverage for the member.

More Options for Quartz Members in Dubuque

Quartz is pleased to announce the Grand River Medical Group of Dubuque, Iowa joined the roster of Quartz providers effective January 1, 2020. Their offerings include primary care and specialty care that includes Allergy/Immunology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Hypertension, Pulmonary & Critical Care and Travel Medicine. These providers will be available to Quartz members in Iowa and Wisconsin, for all lines of business except Medicare Advantage.

Quartz CEO to Retire

Terry Bolz, Quartz president and chief executive, recently announced his plans to retire in July 2020. During his almost two-decade tenure, Terry has continually advanced Quartz’s commitment to the health and well-being of our members.

Our search for a new CEO is underway and we anticipate a smooth transition later this year. Terry’s successor will uphold his legacy of collaboration by working with our owners (Gundersen Health System, UnityPoint Health and UW Health) to provide cost-effective, high-quality health care in the communities we serve.

All of us at Quartz wish Terry the best of luck in the next chapter of his life. He has made an indelible imprint on Quartz through his compassionate, motivational and strategic leadership.
