The Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 (WHCRA) is a federal law that provides protections to patients who choose to have breast reconstruction in connection with a mastectomy. If you have had or are going to have a mastectomy, you may be entitled to certain benefits under WHCRA.
Quartz provides breast reconstruction benefits under this law for individuals receiving benefits related to a mastectomy. We provide coverage in collaboration with the attending physician and the patient for:
- All stages of reconstruction of the breast on which the mastectomy was performed;
- Surgery and reconstruction of the other breast to produce a symmetrical appearance;
- Prostheses; and
- Treatment of physical complications of the mastectomy, including lymphedema.
Coverage for these services is subject to the same limitations, exclusions, and cost-sharing provisions that apply to other services provided under your health insurance plan. The copayment and deductible amounts that apply to your plan’s surgical benefit also apply to the mastectomy and breast reconstruction benefits. Please see your Certificate of Coverage* and Summary of Benefits and Coverage for specific information.
If you have questions about WHCRA benefits, call Quartz Customer Success at (800) 362-3310 or send a message through QuartzMyChart.com.
