August is National Immunization Awareness Month

Do You Know What Your Vaccine Benefits Are?

Vaccines aren’t just for kids. Approximately 40,000 to 50,000 adults in the U.S. die from vaccine preventable infectious diseases or their complications each year.

This month is a perfect time to review your Part D plan benefits and what the coverage is if you get a vaccine at a clinic or a pharmacy. Plus you’ll be ready to go get your vaccines this fall!

If you have prescription Part D coverage-

To get the best benefit under your Part D plan, you need to receive your vaccine from a network pharmacy that employs pharmacists certified to administer vaccines.

Examples of vaccines that are covered under the Part D benefits include-

-Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) or Tetanus Diphtheria-Pertussis (Tdap):

You can get tetanus from insect bites, animal bites, scratches or even a tiny crack in the skin.

-Zoster or shingles:

If you never had chickenpox as a child, you need to get immunized. If you did have chickenpox in the past (or are not sure), you should receive the shingles vaccine (RZV).

If you don’t have prescription Part D Coverage-

If you decided not to take drug coverage through the Quartz Medicare Advantage Part D drug benefit, you will not have coverage for Part D vaccines. However, there are a few vaccines covered under your Quartz Medicare Advantage Part B coverage. You can receive your vaccine at a network pharmacy with a certified pharmacist or at a network clinic.

Part B vaccines include-

-Hepatitis B vaccine (if you are high or moderate risk)

-Influenza vaccine

-Pneumococcal vaccine

-Tetanus vaccines directly related to the treatment of an injury or direct exposure to a disease or condition. For example: A tetanus immunization if you have stepped on a rusty nail, a rabies immunization if you have been bitten by a dog, etc.
