Drug companies may offer introductory programs that let you get free drugs, either by giving it to you, or by covering the cost of your copayment. This may seem very helpful right now, but these programs are causing increased health care costs that you can end up paying for in the long run. Having preferred drugs on formulary allows Unity to provide sustainable, affordable and cost-effective care. Many drugs require you to meet certain criteria before coverage is provided under your prescription benefits. Getting your medications free or with discounts from drug company programs may offer you short term out of pocket savings, but can increase your overall costs.

Please be aware that ongoing coverage through Unity is not guaranteed for you if the medication is provided by the drug company and the criteria for coverage under the prescription benefit plan are not met. Talk to your doctor about what is needed by Unity for your medication to be covered.
