REASONS TO CONSIDER PURCHASING MEDICAL AND DENTAL INSURANCE COVERAGE TOGETHER
Buying medical and dental coverage together offers several benefits, including
- Convenience – Whether you go to healthcare.gov or directly to an insurance company, you can compare plans online to find a plan that is the right fit for you or your family and take care of everything at once
- Compliance – If you purchase medical and pediatric dental coverage together in an ACA-compliant policy, this will fulfill the requirements of the Affordable Care Act
- Ease of Use – Once you purchase a plan that includes dental, your benefit information appears together in one policy. For example, Unity members can track their deductible online in MyChart to see how much the family has accumulated toward their deductible. Pediatric dental, certain prescriptions and many health care service costs add up together toward the family deductible
- Pricing May Be Better – Plans that include both health and dental coverage may be cheaper than purchasing two separate plans. However, it’s important to carefully compare plans and coverage to make sure you understand what is and is not covered in the dental plan.
Do you have to buy dental coverage at the same time as medical coverage?
If you are buying a dental plan separately from your medical insurance, you don’t have to buy dental insurance at the same time. However, health insurance plans must be purchased during open enrollment (November 1, 2017 through December 15, 2017), unless you have a qualifying event. If you are buying a plan that includes both medical and dental coverage together, your dental coverage must also be purchased during open enrollment.
Unity offers medical and dental insurance coverage for both children and adults in Wisconsin. See what health plans you qualify for and get a quote today. For questions about our plans, call us at 608.644.3430.
