Love Your Heart With All Your Heart

Did you know that one person dies every 36 seconds in the U.S. from heart disease? Today’s heart-health screening tests can uncover early cardiovascular disease. At Quartz, we care about your well-being. We want to remind you about the importance of early detection.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S. Early detection can make treatment more effective and reduce cardiovascular events. Medical conditions and lifestyle choices put people at a higher risk for heart disease, including:

How can you love your heart?

  • Diabetes
  • Being overweight
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Physical inactivity
  • Excessive alcohol use

Make healthier choices. Research shows that about 80% of heart disease (heart attacks, angina, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure) can be prevented. Do your best to get optimal nutrition, exercise, maintain a healthy weight and BMI, keep any alcohol intake mild, and avoid smoking.

You have the power to prevent or delay the onset of cardiovascular disease.

Talk with your provider and develop a plan for prevention, detection, and keeping your heart healthy.

Is it a Stroke? Think FAST!

Heart disease can increase the risk of stroke. Recognize the signs, call 911, and get a stroke victim to the hospital FAST to reduce their risk of disability or death.

Face Drooping – Is one side drooping or numb? Not sure? Ask the person to smile.

Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Did one drift downward?

Speech Difficulty – Does the speech sound slurred? Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase such as “is the ocean blue”?

Time to Call 911 – If the person shows any of these symptoms, call 911. Get this person to the hospital fast.
