Sleep Drugs and Older Adults


The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Beers Criteria offers prescribing recommendations for adults older than 65 years old. The AGS Beers Criteria is updated every three years. Its 2019 updates focuses on updating drugs depending on patient comorbidities, drug-drug interactions, and potentially inappropriate medications. Over 90 changes have been made to the Beers Criteria, including new changes to prescribing practices of benzodiazepines and sedative-hypnotics for sleep.
