TIPS TO HELP YOU GET THROUGH AIRPORT SECURITY WITH EASE

Due to airport security and strict rules for carry-on bags, people with diabetes need to plan ahead

  • Pack your diabetes medicine and supplies in your carryon bag – they are all allowed on the plane.
  • Label and separate your diabetes equipment, supplies and medicine from your other items for easy viewing.
  • If you are wearing an insulin pump and don’t want to go through the metal detector, tell a security officer that you are wearing a pump and ask for a visual search and a security pat-down.
  • Ask your doctor for a note saying you have diabetes that can be shown at the security area.

USE THESE TIPS TO MAKE YOUR TRIP SMOOTH AND STRESS-FREE

  • Bring more medicine and supplies than you normally need in case there are delays in getting home.
  • Take copies of prescriptions with you.
  • Bring your health insurance card and emergency phones numbers, including your doctor’s name and phone number.
  • Wear a medical ID that says you have diabetes.
  • Find out where to get medical care if needed when away from home.

Most importantly, have fun!
