October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a great time to encourage screening and engage in conversations about breast cancer risks.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women. About 12 percent of U.S. women will develop breast cancer. However, the five-year relative survival rate for women with stage 0 or stage I breast cancer is close to 100 percent.*

Mammography is recommended every one to two years for women more than 50. Screening mammography is a preventive service covered at no cost. Talk to your doctor about scheduling yours today.

Unity members who are overdue for a mammogram will get a reminder letter or a phone call encouraging them to get scheduled for this important screening.

Talk to your doctor or nurse about your breast cancer risks. For more information, please visit Unity’s breast cancer awareness webpage: unityhealth.com/breastcancer.
